Updating rooftop units and energy systems can lead to a large amount of energy savings especially in commercial buildings. The U.S department of energy advanced rooftop unit campaign has the goal to make commercial buildings more energy efficient. Since 2013, when the campaign was started, more than 300 building had their rooftop units replaced or upgraded. These replacements and upgrades led to a savings of over $90 million in energy costs. Seven organizations including Walgreens, Davita inc., and sheetz are being recognized for their involvement in the project. Walgreens alone updated 3,988 of their rooftop units. By doing so Walgreens saved 35.7 million KWH annually. These are amazing amounts of energy being saved.
