Johnson Controls, a private sector entity, has been contracted by the U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center to design and implement upgrades to their current energy systems on their U.S. Army Garrison in Kwajalein. The new system includes an island wide Solar PV/Lithium-ion Battery Storage/Microgrid control system and the installation of LED lighting systems, which could save the Garrison more than $2.2 million dollars over 20 years. Additionally, these improvements will help the garrison use less fossil fuels.
