A wide variety of respirators and dust masks are available at the typical home improvement store, and it’s important to determine the proper type for your application. Determine whether you need to filter particulates (dust, mists, liquids, and some fumes) and/or gases or vapors. In general, for particulates a dust mask will be adequate. Match the filter type to the application. For vapors, a respirator is generally recommended. See the chart below for more details.
